In u06s1, you completed the Iconic Memory activity located on the Psychsim CD. Answer the following questions, based on your experience.

  • What type of memory did the activity address?
  • How did you feel as you completed the exercises?
  • What do you think you could do to improve your scores?
  • Would improving this type of memory help in areas of your life? If so, how?
  • How might improving other types of memory help you?
Response Guidelines

Provide substantive responses to the initial posts of at least two
other learners. Contribute to the conversation by asking questions,
respectfully debating positions, or responding freely to the topic at
hand. Your responses should reference assigned readings as well as other
academic references that support your views and writings. Use APA (6th
edition) style and formatting for citing references.

NOTE: As you read through the posts of your peers,
you might find opinions and value sets that differ from your own.
Remember to be respectful of others' opinions and value perspectives.

Hello Dr. Alicia and class mates,

In this assignment on the Psychsim 5 CD we reviewed the Iconic memory process.

Iconic memory is a momentary memory sensory of
visual stimuli, a photographic or picture image memory lasting no more
then a few 10ths of a second.

After completing the exercises I realized I could not remember more
then 2 or 3 of the random letters shown during the exercises. It was
quite frustrating actually. I felt my memory capacity of a few 10ths of a
second was not enough time for me to remember what I viewed on the
screen. In the partial report test trials it slowly became easier to
grasp and hold on to momentarily. But in the delayed partial report
trails I felt I did even worse.

I would definitely need to practice more of these response tests in
the future to try and better my memory skills at remembering more
letters or numbers then I did. I think improving this type of memory
further could help me in certain aspects of my life, like driving and
remembering street or road signs on the highways. Once I could train my
brain to hold on to such images longer, then I would probably get lost a
lot less, miss exit turn off ramps , etc.

In trying to improve on other types of memory skills I would try
chunking portions of what I see or hear to try and remember them better
or by reciting them aloud as I see or hear them to see if I can extend
my short term memory capacity.
